RRDC Commemorates 50 Years of Long Beach Racing with an Expanded Legends Dinner & Gala

Bobby Rahal, the head of the Road Racing Drivers Club (RRDC), has revealed an exciting expansion for the 2025 RRDC Legends Dinner and Gala. The event will honor the 50th anniversary of racing on the streets of Long Beach and pay tribute to three motorsport legends: Mario Andretti, Al Unser Jr., and Brian Redman.

The 15th annual dinner and gala will take place on April 10, 2025, at a brand-new location—the Westin Long Beach Resort at 333 E. Ocean Blvd. It will be held the evening before the start of the 50th Anniversary Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, marking the third race of the 2025 NTT IndyCar Series. The event is open to the public, with more details and registration links to be shared soon.

All proceeds from the dinner will benefit The Mark Donohue Foundation, which supports the RRDC’s SAFEisFAST campaign, as well as the Grand Prix Foundation of Long Beach, which funds local charities. The foundation’s share of the gala funds will be directed toward the Automotive Technology Program at Long Beach City College.

Andretti, Unser Jr., and Redman will be celebrated at the gala, where attendees will enjoy a ‘David Letterman-style’ interview with the honorees hosted by Rahal himself.

Mario Andretti, a four-time Long Beach winner, is widely credited with elevating the event to a world-class status, having claimed victories at the 1977 Formula 1 USA Grand Prix West and the 1984 Indy car race. Al Unser Jr. holds the record for the most wins at Long Beach, with six victories between 1988 and 1995, while Brian Redman triumphed at the inaugural Long Beach race in 1975, an SCCA/USAC Formula 5000 event that paved the way for Formula 1 to race in the city for the next eight years.

“We at the Road Racing Drivers Club are thrilled to partner with the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach in celebrating 50 years of racing through the streets of this stunning California city,” Rahal said. “This event has become a symbol of motorsport, not just for IndyCars but for Formula 1, Trans-Am, Formula 5000, and even the popular celebrity races. We are honored to recognize three of our favorite legends and RRDC members—Mario, Little Al, and Brian. They are true champions and passionate supporters of the sport and the RRDC’s initiatives.”

“Each year, the Road Racing Drivers Club event is a highlight of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend,” added Jim Michaelian, President & CEO of the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach. “This year is especially meaningful as we join the RRDC in celebrating three legendary figures in motorsport—Mario Andretti, Al Unser Jr., and Brian Redman. Their contributions to Long Beach’s racing history have inspired generations of drivers and fans, and we are thrilled to honor their remarkable legacies at this special evening.”
